CHAPLAIN CERTIFICATION LEVEL COURSE SUGGESTIONS

 

Basic Chaplain Certification Requirements (level 100):

Completed TFFC application

- Organizational appointment

- Ecclesiastical endorsement

- Certificate of Ordination (or letter of Pastoral Supervision)

- Currently serving as a Fire, Rescue, or EMS Chaplain

- Annual dues of $75 paid (must be paid annually in order to keep or build certification)

Completion of Federation of Fire Chaplains Basic Chaplains Academy

Completion of International Critical Incident Stress Foundation Individual CISM Course

Completed Basic Emergency Service Academy or Approved Plan of Cross Training (70 hrs.)

Complete 16 hours of approved Chaplain training annually to keep certification

Intermediate Chaplain Certification Requirements (level 200):

Satisfaction of above requirements

Completion of courses in the following subject areas:

Special Services in the Fire Service

Grief, Death and Bereavement in the Fire Service

Contemporary Problems Related to Fire Service Personnel

Ecumenical Foundations

Philosophy of the Fire Service Chaplain

History of the Fire Service Chaplain

Cultural Diversity – Understanding the Community

Utilization of Community Resources

Working with Local Mental Health Providers

Senior Chaplain Certification Requirements (level 300):

Satisfaction of above requirements

5 Years in Active Fire, Rescue, or EMS Chaplain Service

Completion of courses in the following subject areas:

Organizing a Stress Management Team

Marriage and Family Systems in the Fire Service

Fire Service Influence in the Family

Crisis Intervention Strategies in Fire Service Families

Managing Chaplain’s External Demands and Pressures

Ethics and Spiritual Responsibility

Gender Diversity in the Fire Service

Rewards and Motivations from the Chaplain – Banquets, Picnics, and Special Events

Managing the Chaplain and his/her Family

Call Verses Conflicts of the Call

Disaster and the Chaplain’s Roles
